
On the morning of 12.11.2012, at Buon Tua Srah hydroelectric Lake (Dak Lak), the Opening Ceremony of the 5th Sturgeon farms in the industrial scale system was held by Vietnam Sturgeon Group. The ceremony had the presence of representatives of many ministries, sectors of and provinces in the region.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Phuong, General Deputy Director of Vietnam Sturgeon Group, said that the initial capital investment for facilities at Buon Tua Srah lake is about 500 billion VNĐ, with 20,000 fish in 50 cages. It is expected that, after 12-18 months, half of these fishes will become commercial products, weighing between 2-3 kg per one. The remaining will be fed in the next 5 years to produce canned black caviar for exporting (each fish can be harvested 1 kg roes, valued from U.S. $ 1000 to $1200).

The Vietnam Sturgeon Group has developed raising facilities in Binh Thuan and Lam Dong, Binh Dinh and Bac Giang. In two years, the enterprise plans to invest from 5 to 10 new breeding center in Dak Lak, so that the caviar productivity can reach 1,000 tons/year.According to the survey and evaluation of the Russian experts who are working for the Group, the lake area of three hydropower plants Buon Tua Srah, Serepok 3 and Buon Kuop in Dak Lak Kuop have suitable soil conditions, climate and ecological environment for the development of Russian sturgeon farming, especially the Beluga Huso huso and Acipenseridae line, to exploit such Sturgeon products with high commercial value as meat and Sturgeon roe (Caviar).
